"Make it look like a model home."
What makes a model home feel different
"Make it just look like a model home." I hear this all the time.
A model home. What exactly makes it different?
If you look closely, there's nothing particularly special about what's inside.
A bed, a dresser, a sofa, an accent chair, a bench, a coffee table, a desk, a dining set.
Along with appliances, these are things every home already has.
And yet, that space looks completely different.
Why?
The answer is surprisingly simple.
There are three key ideas behind it.
First, design concept. Second, design concept. Third, again, design concept.
The core of interior design education is also built around this idea.
Of course, natural talent cannot be ignored.
But the training that shapes a designer always centers on developing a concept.
This is the point where most people struggle.
It's unfamiliar, and it's not something they've practiced.
If we go a bit deeper, a simple comparison might help.
A surgeon, even one who graduated from a top school, does not automatically perform great surgeries.
Surgery is only complete when deep medical knowledge meets precise, controlled hands.
Design works the same way.
No matter how much one studies concepts, the level of execution will always differ from person to person.
In the end, what creates the difference is not understanding, but execution.
So in a time like now, when design is everywhere,
choosing what looks better is not the first step.
Learning to read the concept behind it comes first.
Once you begin to see that, the same objects start to look entirely different.
And that's when you take your first real step into the world of design.
Once you see it, you can't unsee it. Explore more at beyondmyspace.com
